Calculation method

The force that has to be transmitted is not necessarily the tensile strength of the geosynthetic. The safety factors, e.g. against creep, should not be taken into account for the required transfer of forces.

The transfer of forces, from one geosynthetics to another, is depending on the friction between both and on the vertical (normal) load.

This calculation is only valid for geosynthetics used as separation layer or as capping. In case geosynthetics are used for reinforcement (retaining walls, embankments), overlaps are not allowed. For those projects the geosynthetics should be supplied to tailor-made lengths.
